Multilateral

Purpose:  The Multilateral Section at the South African Embassy in Washington, DC, works towards furthering South Africa’s foreign policy objectives with respect to its participation in the global system of governance. In this regard, the Multilateral Section engages on issues concerning South Africa’s multilateral policy, which include, inter alia, nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament; climate change, specifically with respect to developments post the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, human rights, Group of 20 (G20); and reform of the Breton Woods Institutions.

The Multilateral Section also works on African Union (AU) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) issues.
